December Proust: Arne Eggers

Your symbol of high fashion – Being cool without quite realising it.

You favourite fabric – Good cashmere.

Your favourite colour – Hermès orange. Maybe not great to wear, but perfect on the boxes!

The collection you will never forget – Chanel’s Spring 2009 collection where Lagerfeld turned the Petit Palais in Paris into a barn yard and had Lily Allen plus band elevated out of the floor and sing “Not Fair”. The most entertaining show I’ve ever seen.

The style you most dislike – People trying too hard.

Your favourite fashion photographer – Tim Walker. I love the wacky style of his work.

Your favourite model – Linda Evangelista.

Your shoe/shoe designer fetish – Topshop Plimsolls! For women Charlotte Olympia or Nicholas Kirkwood.

Your jewel/jewelry designer fetish – My gold Casio is all I can bring myself to wear. But I do love my friend Matthew Campbell Laurenza’s jewellery (M.C.L) and vintage Verdura pieces.

Your favourite fashion accessory – I’m obsessed with bow ties and my current favourite is a black Tom Ford one with white polka dots. I also wouldn’t want to live without my black cashmere-silk scarf by Loro Piana, which is great for traveling or in freezing AC.

Your ideal bag – My YSL shopper in black calf leather. I bought it years ago in London and still use it all the time. It’s sturdy, roomy and goes with everything.

The most creative designer – Manish Arora

The most timeless designer – Yves Saint Laurent – copies of his looks keep popping up season after season.

Your favourite designer – Alber Elbaz, Alexander Wang, Riccardo Tisci.

Your favourite decade in fashion – Currently 1960s, it’s all about Madmen!

Your contemporary muse or inspiration – Can’t think of anyone worth mentioning.

Your historical muse or icon – Veruschka, Diana Vreeland, Nancy Cunard.

The “look” you prefer for a man – Casual dandy: an evening jacket, complete with a pocket square, worn with skinny jeans and a good white T.

The “look” you prefer for a woman – Edgy classics: A bit of Audrey Hepburn here, a bit of Jackie O there, but everything done with a contemporary twist and a hint of rock’n’roll. And massive heels, obviously.

The fashion faux pas you can tolerate most – I don’t tolerate any fashion faux pas!

The fashion faux pas you can tolerate least – Women who can’t walk in their heels. Do some training or just wear a nice pair of flats!

What is your present state of mind? What to have for lunch?

Your fashion motto – Don’t think too much about it.
